Monroe County sheriff to leave office next month

UNION, W.Va. — Monroe County Sheriff Sean Crosier submitted his resignation letter Tuesday to leave office Sept. 4.

Crosier, who began serving as sheriff in January, cited family obligations in a letter to the Monroe County Commission.

“We learned a few months ago my wife will be unable to retire as soon as we expected,” he said. “Therefore, I must consider our future long-term goals, as I have always been a ‘Family First’ individual.”

Crosier also said he has accepted a position with a “prestigious training and education organization” that works with federal agencies in preparation of chemical attacks.

The county commission must appoint a new sheriff 30 days after Crosier leaves. The appointee must be from the same party, which in this case is the Democratic Primary. The seat would be back on the ballot in May 2018.
