Correctional officer arrested for slipping drugs, knives to inmates

MOUNT OLIVE, W.Va. — A man who worked at Mount Olive Correctional Center in Fayette County faces charges of bribery and aiding inmantes.

43-year-old Toby Lyle Stover of Beckley has been charged with seven felony counts of aiding an adult in confinement and seven felony counts of bribery.  The West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety stated in a release that Stover was a Lieutenant at the center until he resigned earlier this month.

The department began investigating Stover in February of 2017.  A criminal complaint alleges Stover was giving inmates several items including drugs, knives and cellphones.  The incidents were evident through the facility’s surveillance video and cell phone records.

Stover was getting paid $300 per delivery through a fake company he set up.  As of Friday, he was being held at Southern Regional Jail in Raleigh County on $20,000 bond.
