Fairmont man charged with attempted murder after threatening to “skin victim alive”

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Marion County man is accused of attempted murder after an argument with his girlfriend nearly turned deadly.

Michael A. Stinson, 44, is accused of physically battering the victim, cutting off her clothing, and then forcing her into a bathtub where he threatened to skin the victim alive.

Stinson is further accused of threatening to kill the victim, according to the criminal complaint. The allegations against him also state that Stinson cut the victim’s hands and arms before severely slashing her face with a knife. He then allegedly forced the victim to view her own slashed face in the mirror.

According to the complaint, the victim was able to escape and notify law enforcement. Stinson is in North Central Regional Jail on a $1,000,000 cash or surety bond.

The Fairmont Police Department is investigating.
