State Capitol safety rules released ahead of Black Lives Matter protest

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Military Affairs released a statement Friday ahead of Sunday’s Black Lives Matter rally at the state Capitol, telling people certain items will not be allowed because of state law and in light of last weekend’s violent protests in Charlottesville.

Among the items banned are:

— All manner of firearms and knives;
— Sticks, including those with signs;
— Helmets;
— Shields;
— Water guns;
— Capstun or pepper spray;
— Bicycles; and
— Animals.

Call to Action for Racial Equality is holding a rally Sunday at the Capitol’s North Plaza. It is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
