Kanawha County dentist pleads guilty for falsely billing Medicaid

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston dentist pleaded guilty Monday to health care fraud in connection to falsely billing West Virginia Medicaid and state Medicaid Managed Care Organizations for more than $700,000.

Antoine Skaff admitted to fraudulently billing for dental procedures he did not actually perform for more than five years, including noting complex procedures when he actually performed simple extractions.

Skaff also admitted to submitting false bills and receiving payment twice for removing the same teeth from the same patients.

He faces up to 10 years in federal prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 13. As part of his plea agreement, Skaff has agreed to pay $738,067 in restitution.
