Braxton County Schools delayed due to fire near elementary school

GASSAWAY, W.Va. — All Braxton County Schools are operating on a two-hour delay Wednesday, due to a structure fire near Davis Elementary School.

Gassaway Fire Department President Josh Whitesel said the fire was in a two-story wood structure across the street from the school. No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries are reported.

Whitesel said the fire is now under control. Smoke did enter Davis Elementary School, and the school received a bit of water damage from the responders fighting the fire.

The damage has been cleaned up, and Whitesel said the school is ready for the school day.
