Crew searching for New River swimmer

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — A swimmer went missing in the New River Thursday afternoon just before 5 p.m.

The National Park Service said the missing swimmer is a male in his early 20’s.  He was swimming above the Fayette Station Rapids in Fayette County.  Emergency responders were called after a witness said he did not reappear from the rapids.

The Beaver Fire Department Dive Team looked for him until about 8 p.m. Thursday.  They will continue searching Friday morning.
