Glenville State student killed in single-vehicle accident

GLENVILLE, W.Va. — A sophomore student of Glenville State College was killed in a single-vehicle accident Thursday.

Jonathan Knotts, 19, of Philippi, died in the accident after hitting a decorative brick wall at the base of a Foodland sign around 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

Knotts was a 2016 graduate of Philip Barbour High School and was pursuing a science education degree at Glenville State.

A passenger, Tyler Oliver, 18, of South Carolina, was injured in the accident and was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment. Oliver, a freshman at Glenville State, was taken to Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston, where he was in stable condition as of Thursday.

Glenville Police Department is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.

Grief counseling for students, faculty, and staff is available through GSC’s on-campus counselor Tim Underwood and through Minnie Hamilton Health Systems from Psychologist Dr. Jim Davison.
