CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Notre Dame made an impressive first impression Friday night by beating No. 6 Pendleton County 41-30.
Ryan LaAsmar, the Irish’s 6-foot-4 senior quarterback, led the way with 15-of-26 passing for 223 yards and a touchdown. He added 56 yards and two more scores on the ground.
“I think a lot of it shows our maturity and how we’ve grown from last year,” said Notre Dame coach Sam Alvaro. “Ryan at quarterback really led us well, our line did a great job, our receivers were able to make some nice plays and Ryan put the ball in perfect spots.
The win avenged last season’s 48-20 loss to Pendleton, who ultimately reached the state semifinals. Notre Dame posted only three wins.
“We were real close to 50-50 run-pass tonight,” Alvaro said. “We were able to compliment our young running backs, sophomore Brent Robinson and freshman Gabriel Lopez, with Ryan being able to throw the ball down the field.”
