ST. LOUIS — The West Virginia National Guard will be honored by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for its recovery work in the June 2016 flood.
The charity began its Annual Assembly on Thursday in Tampa, Florida. It will present the state National Guard with the Sam Carocci Humanitarian Award, which recognizes groups for disaster relief and recovery.
“The 6,400 men and women of the West Virginia National Guard are honored to receive this award,” said Maj. Gen. James Hoyer, the adjutant general of the state National Guard.
“Our response was part of the collective efforts of our organization, local and state first responders and volunteers from across our communities.”
The West Virginia National Guard also supported the Society of St. Vincent de Paul during its National House in a Box Program, which provides household items to families affected by natural disasters.
