Putnam delegate resigns seat citing business and family obligations

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A first-term member of the House of Delegates resigned her seat Friday less than a year after being elected.

Del. Nancy Foster (R-Putnam) said her decision was based on business and family obligations.

Delegate Nancy Foster, R-Putnam, resigned Friday.

“After much thought, prayer and discussion with my family, I have decided to resign my seat in the House of Delegates,” Foster said in a House news release. “As a business owner, mother, grandmother and public servant, I’ve tried to balance time spent focused on my public and personal life. Unfortunately, at this time, I don’t feel I’m able to fulfill my business and family obligations while also devoting the time needed to effectively represent the people of my district.”

House Speaker Tim Armstead said he’ll miss Foster’s passion in the legislature.

“While I’m sad to see her leave, I respect her decision to do what she feels is in the best interest of the people of her district,” Armstead said.

Foster represented the 38th Delegate District made up of Putnam County and part of Kanawha County. The district’s delegate executive committee will have 15 days to submit the names of three potential replacements to Gov. Jim Justice. Justice will make the final decision.
