New office opens for opioid-related health care fraud

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia announced Thursday a new attorney position focused on health care fraud related to the opioid epidemic.

According to a press release, the Assistant U.S. Attorney will be assigned to the Violent Crime and Narcotics Section of the Criminal Division, and will be responsible for investigating and prosecuting federal criminal cases involving health care fraud with opioids. The person will work out of Charleston.

The position comes with a three-year term and was created as part of a pilot program from the U.S. Attorney General’s office.
