State BOE member charged with DUI

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Monongalia County native and member of the West Virginia State Board of Education was charged with DUI following an accident early Friday morning.

The Dominion Post reported early Friday evening that Francis S. Vitale, 43, of Morgantown is charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

Vitale reportedly apologized and told the paper that “it will never happen again” and that he would “never have gotten behind the wheel” if he thought he was impaired.

Vitale was appointed to the State Board of Education by Gov. Jim Justice.

The Governor’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
