Arrest made in deadly hit and run

LOGAN, W.Va. — Deputies in Logan County arrested a man Saturday night they allege was involved in a deadly hit and run collision earlier in the week.

Todd Eric Deskins, 28, of Verdunville, was charged with hit and run resulting in death. The arrest came a few hours after deputies reported discovering the body of Clevina Hackney, 36, of Switzer, in the Guyandotte River near Cherry Tree.

Deputies had received a report Tuesday, Sept. 5, that a person had been struck by a vehicle along state Route 44. They searched the area and the river but found nothing. The level of the Guyandotte had dropped by Saturday when Hackney’s body was found. Authorities said it appeared she had suffered two broken legs.

After receiving tips Saturday, deputies said they found the Ford F-150 believed to be involved in the crash parked at Deskins’ residence. They said there was evidence of a collision and work on the vehicle.

Deputies said Deskins was a corrections officer at the Southwest Regional Jail.
