Update: Turnpike crash victim identified as Beckley man

CAMP CREEK, W.Va. — State police identified a Beckley man as the victim of a Wednesday morning wrong-way fatal collision on Interstate 77 in Mercer County.

Cody Kincaid, 27, reportedly was driving the Jeep involved in the wreck and died at the scene.

Authorities said the Jeep was traveling the wrong direction on the West Virginia Turnpike around 5:45 a.m. when it struck a tractor trailer traveling northbound and subsequently slammed into a pickup truck carrying air conditioning units.

A second passenger in the Jeep was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center while a third person was taken to Princeton Community Hospital. State police did not disclose their names.

The crash was reported around 7 a.m. near the Camp Creek exit and a few miles north of the Bluestone Travel Plaza. Turnpike authorities initially confirmed that one person died and three others were transported via HealthNet in critical condition.

The crash shutdown I-77 northbound for several hours.
