MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Skyler Simcox, a kicker who connected on 16-of-22 field goals for Western Kentucky last season, announced he intends on transferring to West Virginia and will enroll in January.
The 6-foot junior will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after starting his career at Division III Emory & Henry, where he made 9-of-11 kicks as a freshman, including two 48-yarders.
Kicking guru Mike McCabe announced via Twitter that Simcox had accepted a scholarship offer from the Mountaineers.
Keenan Cumming of Rivals reported Simcox plans to visit Morgantown for the Texas Tech game on Oct. 14.
During Simcox’s lone season at Western Kentucky, he made a 50-yard kick against Houston Baptist and a 52-yarder against Middle Tennessee.
With senior Mike Molina graduating this season, Simcox would enter next year’s kicking competition against walk-on Evan Staley and Jonn Young, both of whom are currently redshirt freshmen. Staley is handing kickoffs for the Mountaineers this season while Young has yet to see action and reportedly is coping with an injury.
