FAIRFAX, Va. – Sophomore Albert Andres-Llop tied the match late in regulation and scored the game-winner in overtime to lead No. 19 West Virginia to a 3-2 win at George Mason on Saturday night in men’s soccer.
Andres-Llop tied the game at 2-2 with 99 seconds remaining in the match before scoring the game-winner 97 seconds into overtime. His golden goal came from 20 yards out on a free kick into the bottom left corner of the net.
The goals were his second and third of the season after he scored only one as a freshman.
“That was a good team we played against in George Mason that hadn’t lost at home yet this year,” West Virginia coach Marlon LeBlanc said. “Our kids were unbelievably resilient. We kept fighting, literally to the last second of the game and got a great free kick to win it in overtime.
The Mountaineers (4-1-2) tied the match at 1-1 in the 18th minute after the Patriots (3-2-1) took an early lead in the ninth minute.
