Arraignment in DUI-death case

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Lincoln County woman pleaded not guilty Monday to criminal charges that followed an alcohol-related March crash on Interstate 64 that killed two of her children.

Siera Burgess remains in the Western Regional Jail.

Siera Burgess, of Branchland, was recently indicted by a Cabell County grand jury on charges of DUI causing death, DUI causing serious bodily injury, child neglect resulting in death and child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury.

The crash claimed the lives of Skylor Cooper, 3, and Sarah Cooper, 1. Another daughter, Madilyn, 7, was injured, authorities said.

Investigators said they found beer in the vehicle and there was evidence that Burgess had taken a drug similar to Xanax.

Burgess entered a not guilty plea during her arraignment Monday in Cabell County Circuit Court. She remains in the Western Regional Jail on $2.5 million bail. A trial date will be set for later this year.
