Putnam education board suspends former principal following DUI charge

WINFIELD, W.Va. — The Putnam County Board of Education voted Monday to suspend a former principal without pay after he was charged last month with driving under the influence.

Brad Knell was arrested on a DUI charge in August.

The board also voted to terminate Bradley Knell’s probationary contract.

Knell was arrested Aug. 31 after he was found passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle in the drive-through lane of First Sentry Bank in Nitro.

The board had voted three days earlier to rehire Knell as a teacher at Buffalo High School.

Knell previously was principal at Poca High School, but he resigned in October 2016 after being charged for using a basketball booster debit card for his own benefit.
