Federal fugitive arrested after hiding in attic

BRADLEY, W.Va. — A Raleigh County man is behind bars after he reportedly barricaded himself from authorities attempting to serve a federal warrant.

David Pfost, 32.

U.S. Marshal Inspector Christopher Lair told MetroNews affiliate WJLS that David Pfost, 32, was wanted for a violation of his federal supervised release.

When U.S. Marshal’s forced themselves into the Stone Street residence at around 8 a.m. Friday, Pfost hid from them in the attic.

“Our guys knew he was in there, they forced entry and at that point they saw the actual drop down door to the attic close,” Lair said. “Not knowing if he had weapons, our guys backed up, set up a perimeter around and called in the Raleigh County Swat Team.”

Initial reports throughout the roughly two-hour incident led many to believe it was a “standoff” situation. Lair confirmed Pfost did not have any weapons on him and nobody else was involved.

“We don’t like to use that term (standoff). I know it’s kind of a buzz word, but basically he was hiding.”

Pfost was arrested after he fell through the ceiling.  He was booked at Southern Regional Jail in Raleigh County at around 11 Friday morning.
