Gallery: No. 3 Huntington beats Capital on last-second field goal

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Junior kicker Isaiah Carpenter hit a game-winning 23-yard field goal with time expiring, giving Class AAA No. 3 Huntington a 24-21 win over No. 5 Capital on Friday night.

Jadon Hayes rushed for 241 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns in the win for the Highlanders (5-0).

“We felt like we had taken ourselves out of a couple of scoring opportunities with stupid penalties in the second half,” said Huntington coach Billy Seals. “We felt like (Capital) was getting tired (by the final drive). Our offensive line and Jadon Hayes just forced their will on them on that last drive – that was a heck of a drive for us.”

Huntington jumped out to the early 14-0 lead, but saw Capital come back to eventually tie the game at 21-21 in the second half. The Cougars dropped to 3-2 with the loss.
