CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Wood County man who allegedly shot at law enforcement officers multiple times during an early Sunday morning chase that included times of driving the wrong way on Interstate 64 in Kanawha County is facing multiple charges.
Krystopher Neff, 29, of Parkersburg was arraigned later in the day Sunday in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
Neff was reportedly on a motorcycle when deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department first attempted to stop him in St. Albans.
Nitro Police picked up the chase when the motorcycle was spotted near the Nitro-St. Albans Bridge where a tractor-trailer was run off the road, according to investigators.
It was at that point that Nitro Police said Neff slowed down the motorcycle he was on, pulled out a gun and appeared to shoot at a Nitro officer who was not hit.
Police reports indicated the pursuit then moved to Route 25 to Institute and onto Interstate 64 where the chase continued through Cross Lanes before entering Charleston city limits.
Along the way, near the Oakwood Road exit, Neff allegedly shot at a Dunbar police officer who had joined the pursuit.
Neff was arrested before 4 a.m. Sunday after he crashed his motorcycle in the 1400 block of Virginia Street on Charleston’s East End.
“I freaked out,” Neff told WSAZ Television’s Jatara McGee of the chase. He claimed he fled because he was on a stolen motorcycle.
A Nitro police officer and driver of a separate vehicle struck on I-64 during the pursuit were being treated for injuries on Sunday.
