Toyota West Virginia sets project announcement for Tuesday

BUFFALO, W.Va. — Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia has a “special announcement” set for Tuesday, according to a press release.

Gov. Jim Justice, state Commerce Secretary Woody Thrasher and Toyota West Virginia President Leah Curry will be on hand regarding a new project at the facility in Buffalo.

The plant opened in 1996. Toyota announced in September 2016 an additional $400 million in investment. Toyota West Virginia has plans to evolve from producing 6-speed transmission lines to 8-speed transmission lines. The state branch of the auto manufacturer employs around 1,600 people.

The Buffalo plant is valued at $1.4 billion.

The announcement is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

During a presentation to state legislators last week, Thrasher mentioned the likelihood of “some exciting automotive announcements in the next couple of months.”
