Human remains found in Huntington river belonged to a woman, police say

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Human remains discovered in the Guyandotte River in Huntington belonged to a woman, according to police.

The remains were found Sunday along with additional remains Monday. Police said they believe both pieces belonged to one body.

Huntington Police Chief Chief Joe Ciccarelli told WSAZ-TV Tuesday during a press conference the cause of death was an “act of violence.”

Police do not believe the woman was a missing person.

A full autopsy is scheduled to be conducted Wednesday.
