HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — For the first time in nearly decade, Marshall University is in the market for a new top academic officer.
Dr. Gayle Ormiston steps down as Marshall’s provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the end of the current academic year and will join the College of Liberal Arts’ philosophy faculty, according to information from the University.
Ormiston has served as provost since 2008.
In the past ten years, “Marshall University has faced many challenges but has emerged from those challenges as a stronger institution and I am honored to have been able to serve in a capacity that allowed me to contribute to its success,” Ormiston said in a statement.
“I feel like we have come a long way and will enjoy watching Marshall continue to grow and prosper for many years.”
Prior to being hired at Marshall, Ormiston served for six years as associate provost for faculty affairs and curriculum at Kent State University.
He was chair of Kent State’s Department of Philosophy from 1996 to 2002.
Ormiston earned his bachelor’s degree from Kent State in 1972, his master’s degree from Kent State in 1973 and his doctorate from Purdue University in 1981. All of his degrees are in philosophy.
