Mingo County woman charged with murder in August death

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. — A Mingo County woman was arrested Monday night in the death of a Logan County woman last month.

Kristy Finley

According to West Virginia State Police, Kristy Finley, 32, of Dingess, has been charged with murder in the death of 45-year-old Tammy Browning, of Mount Gay.

Browning was taken to Logan Regional Medical Center on Aug. 15. Authorities said she had died several hours before her body was taken to the hospital.

The state medical examiner’s officer said Browning had narcotics in her system and died of an overdose. Troopers said following an investigation, they believe Finley gave Browning opana, a narcotic used to treat moderate-to-severe pain. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration requested the drug be pulled in June because of the elevated chance of risky use.

Finley is now at Southwestern Regional Jail.
