1 injured in Mercer County shooting

GREEN VALLEY, W.Va. — A neighbor dispute ended in gunfire with 1 person hospitalized, according to West Virginia State Police.

Deputies responded to a residence along Thor Lane off of Mercer Mall Road Tuesday at around 4 in the afternoon Tuesday. Harold Ray, 47 of Green Valley, reportedly told his neighbor to stay off his lawn.  When the neighbor did not comply, Ray allegedly shot at him.

The victim was transported via helicopter to a Roanoke, Va. hospital for treatment from a gun shot wound to his back.

While en route to the scene, State Police made contact with Ray as he was was attempting to drive away.  Upon being taken into custody, it was determined Ray was under the influence of alcohol.

Ray faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, malicious assault, felony in possession of a firearm, DUI and shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling.

The Princeton detachment of the West Virginia State Police is handling the investigation.
