Mountaineers land commitment from 3-star guard Trey Doomes

West Virginia commitment Trey Doomes led Allatoona (Ga.) the Class AAAAAA state semifinals last spring before transferring to University School in Hollywood, Fla.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s basketball team received a commitment Thursday from 6-foot-3 combo guard Trey Doomes, a three-star prospect who holds offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Auburn and a number of mid-majors.

He becomes the Mountaineers’ second commitment for the 2018 class, joining Wisconsin point guard Jordan McCabe, though 2017 signee Derek Culver is expected to re-sign after spending a year in prep school at Brewster (N.H.) Academy.

Possessing the length and ambidexterity to attack the rim, Doomes finished his junior season at Allatoona (Ga.) High by scoring 31 points in a Class AAAAAA state semifinal loss.

Doomes transferred to University School in Hollywood, Fla., for his senior season. He joins a loaded roster at his new high school that includes 2018 three-star guard Drue Dinnon (offered by Pitt and Kansas State), 2019 No. 1 national prospect Vernon Carey and 2020 No. 7 overall prospect Scottie Barnes.

Doomes is a natural two-guard who has the length to play the three-spot in a small lineup. He hopes for immediate playing time at West Virginia, where guards Jevon Carter and Daxter Miles are entering their senior seasons.

“They are a top-10 preseason team, a top-five team in defense, and I want to make it to the league, so I feel like Coach Huggins can definitely get me there,” Doomes told Rivals.com. “They are losing Jevon Carter and they want me to come in and play right away.”
