INWOOD, W.Va. — Family and friends will lay Denise Burditus to rest Monday just over a week after her death during a mass shooting in Las Vegas.
The 50-year-old Martinsburg resident was among 59 people shot and killed while attending a Jason Aldean Concert Oct. 1.
Pastor Tom Snyder with the Back Creek Valley Full Gospel Church said on MetroNews “Talkline” Monday Denise’s husband, Tony, will officiate the service.
“I’m going to be there mainly in the supporting role,” he said. “For the main part of it, Tony himself is going to be talking about Denise.”
Snyder was part of a candlelight vigil for Denise Burditus last week.
He said crimes like this hit at the core of humanity.
“Murder has been a part of the human condition since the very, very beginning,” he said. “The other side trying to snuff out our life and our light has always been a force between good and evil.”
For his part, Tony Burditus said he wanted more people to know his wife’s story.
He told Hoppy Kercheval last Wednesday on “Talkline” his wife always had a smile.
“I have to say if anybody in Berkeley County didn’t know her they probably would at some point because she was probably going to stop you and talk to you in the grocery store or anywhere you were,” Burditus said.
Snyder said he hopes that those memories of Denise endure, even amidst the great tragedy surrounding her death.
“We want to remember the good things, the great things. And then we want to be positive that we can still be victorious, that even though one of our own is gone, we can still be rejoicing.”
The service is scheduled Monday afternoon at Brown Funeral Home’s South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood, W.Va.
The family has asked that the media refrain from attending to respect the family.
Denise Burditus is survived by her husband of 32 years, two children and four grandchildren.
