Long-delayed murder trial to start Wednesday in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. — More than three years after the alleged murder, the Berkeley County trial of the woman accused of killing another woman due to what investigators have claimed was “jealousy over a guy” was scheduled to begin Wednesday.

Nasstashia Powell, also known as Nasstashia Van Camp, 29, is charged with the murder of Taylor Hawkridge, 22, who was shot on June 28, 2014 in a Martinsburg subdivision.

Investigators alleged Powell was waiting for Hawkridge when she got out of her car around 3:30 a.m. after returning home from work.

Her trial has been delayed many times.

Earlier this year, Powell was arrested on drug charges.

Previously, in May 2008, Powell was sentenced to five years in prison for a cocaine distribution charge and returned to prison after her supervised release, which she was on at the time of Hawkridge’s death, was revoked.

Powell was behind bars at Federal Correctional Institute Hazelton in Preston County when she was indicted for murder, according to court records.
