Mercer County deputies, State Police will both respond to car wrecks

PRINCETON, W.Va. — Mercer County Sheriff T.A. Bailey announced Tuesday the sheriff’s department and the West Virginia State Police have organized a plan to assure county residents are provided with enough law enforcement protection, adding there may be double coverage in certain situations.

Bailey had pulled his office last week from responding to vehicle crashes to respond to car accidents, which has been dropped under a new staffing plan.

According to the Bluefield Daily Telegraph, Bailey said at this morning’s Mercer County Commission meeting the plan was his idea, but everyone will be working wrecks from this point going forward.
