RJA trainee fired after allegedly sending racist message to Texas Tech football player

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A probationary employee of the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority has been fired after allegedly sending a racist message to a football player on the Texas Tech University team.

Brandon King purportedly sent the message to redshirt freshman wide receiver T.J. Vasher on Oct. 14, the day West Virginia University played Texas Tech in Morgantown.

“State of West Virginia hates your team,” King posted. “Especially a n—– filled team.”

According to Lawrence Messina, communications director of the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, King would have concluded his on-the-job training at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville on Friday.

Messina said he was alerted by this from a sports radio host based out of Lubbock, Texas. When Secretary Jeff Sandy was made aware, the secretary directed King to be pulled from the class and fired.

According to The Daily Toreador, King, a St. Albans resident, said on Facebook he did not make the comments, adding he noticed someone logged into his account from Baltimore.
