CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources’ Bureau for Public Health announced Wednesday a public survey to gather information from those interested in acquiring medical cannabis.
The anonymous survey comes nearly six months after Gov. Jim Justice signed the West Virginia Medical Cannabis Act, which created the West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis. Physicians will be allowed to obtain a state-issued permit and medical cannabis at approved dispensaries.
“This evaluation will provide some insight as to the demographics of the potential patient population, where they are currently seeking care, and for what conditions they will be seeking medical cannabis, along with what forms of medical cannabis they may choose to obtain,” said Dr. Rahul Gupta, state health officer and commissioner of the Bureau for Public Health.
Medical cannabis will be available at dispensaries beginning in July 2019.
