Fire marshal: Deadly fires in Parkersburg, Logan accidental

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Investigators with the state Fire Marshal’s Office say a pair of deadly fires from Sunday were accidental in nature.

A 64-year-old woman was killed in a blaze on 18th Street in Parkersburg. The fire was caused by an electrical issue, investigators said. There were no smoke alarms in the house and the fire was unrelated to the Ames plant fire.

The early Sunday morning fire that claimed a man’s life at a house on Godby Street in Logan was also an accident. It was connected with cooking, according to investigators.

The victim was a 48-year-old man. There were no working smoke alarms in the house.
