BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — A Bluefield man faces a felony charge of attempted murder after an October 17 incident.
Stacy Burrell, 59 of Bluefield, is accused of cutting a woman’s neck with a box cutter then throwing her off of an I-77 bridge. The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office responded to Princeton Community hospital to talk to a woman who had been injured.
The victim told deputies that she got into a fight with Burrell when he struck her in the head with a two-by-four. He then took her to an I-77 bridge near mile marker 17. She admitted they had previously smoked marijuana and drank alcohol.
Documents show Burrell reportedly cut her neck with a box cutter while telling her she was going to die. He then threw her over the guardrail into the water several feet below. The victim was able to swim to shore and walk to a nearby gas station to call for help.
Burrell was arrested and is being held at Southern Regional Jail in Raleigh County on $150,000 cash bond. He faces charges of attempted murder and malicious assault.
