Funding suspended for Randolph County CVB

ELKINS, W.Va. — Funding has been suspended for the Randolph County Convention and Visitors Bureau after a “questionable expenditure of funds,” Randolph County Commission President Michael Taylor said.

Taylor said that the CVB submitted its financial statement dated June 30, 2017 to both the city of Elkins and the commission, as required on an annual basis. Upon review, officials noticed a $125,000 expenditure.

In separate meetings Tuesday, both the commission and the Elkins City Council approved a temporary suspension of funding to the CVB, Taylor said.

“Funding from the City and County, through the collection of hotel occupancy tax, goes to the Randolph County Convention and Vistors Bureau,” Taylor read from a written statement on Wednesday. “It is the decision of the Elkins Council and the Randolph County Commission to suspend any further funding through the remittance of the hotel occupancy tax to the Randolph County Convention and Visitors Bureau until a complete and thorough investigation of the expenditures is completed.”
