Diehl named Jefferson County Development Director

CHARLES TOWN, W. Va. — The regional manager for the West Virginia Development Office in Martinsburg is being tapped as the new executive director of the Jefferson County Development Authority.

Nic Diehl

Members of the Jefferson County Commission approved the appointment of Nic Diehl during their meeting Thursday.

Diehl told WEPM Radio News he’s excited to get to work, and plans to begin by looking at what’s in place in terms of workforce and assets.

“Trying to determine exactly what we have in the ways of land and property to be able to ascertain what we have to offer,” he said.

Workforce West Virginia released data just this week listing the unemployment rate in Jefferson County at just 2.8 percent, the lowest in the state.

Diehl said the county is unique and wants to see how to draw specialized manufacturing, tech jobs and even expand the tourism industry.

Diehl, who has spent the last 12 years in roles for the West Virginia Department of Commerce, plans to start his new position Nov. 20.
