SCRJ escapee captured in Texas

LAREDO, Texas — An escapee from the South Central Regional Jail has been captured in Laredo, Texas.

According to Lawrence Messina, communications director for the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, 43-year-old Todd Boyes was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol Agents while attempting to crossing the United States-Mexico border around 4 a.m Sunday.

Boyes, of Caldwell, Ohio, escaped from the Charleston facility Wednesday morning after managing to get street clothes. He was not reported missing until a head count at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Four officers at the South Central Regional Jail were suspended without pay in connection to Boyes’ escape.

Boyes was arrested in February following a police pursuit with Charleston police. An officer was injured in the chase, and Boyes was shot in the hand.

After he was captured Sunday, he received medical evaluation and was taken to the Webb County Jail in Laredo, Texas.
