Crane overturns and blocks Raleigh County road for hours

ECCLES, W.Va. — Harper Road west (Route 3) between Eccles and Beckley was the scene of an overturned crane Monday afternoon.

Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center says the accident occurred at around 2:30. The crane started falling after the truck it was secured to went around a sharp curve.

No injuries were reported but a caller told MetroNews affiliate WJLS in Beckley that cars were approaching the truck in the eastbound lane when it happened.

Both sides of Harper Road were closed through the area for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. The road was reportedly cleared at around 9 Monday evening.

It is still unclear where the crane was heading or how extensively it was damaged.
