Four charged in connection to reported teen suicide attempt in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A reported suicide attempt by a 15-year-old in Morgantown has led to the arrest of four people.

Brieanna Renee Harkey, 36, and Blair D. Spath, 30, both of Morgantown, are charged with child neglect resulting in injury and conspiracy. They were arraigned Tuesday in Monongalia County Circuit Court.

Additionally, Joshua B. Rollins, 30, and Casey Shayne Redden, 23, face charges of conspiracy. They are Harkey and Spath’s boyfriends.

Police responded to a home on Wagner Road on the night of Oct. 18 at 10:39 p.m. after receiving a report that a 15-year-old girl had cut herself and swallowed a large quantity of pills.

According to the criminal complaint, police received no answer at the door of the home when they arrived on scene. On second attempt, Harkey and Spath answered the door, but told police the only other person in the home was Harkey’s 17-year-old daughter.

Police received an additional tip and returned to the Wagner Road residence, when the 15-year-old girl in question was seen fleeing from the basement of the home without pants on. She was described as “disheveled” and “her speech was slurred and she appeared to be impaired.”

Police said a caller had tipped them to the possibility that the victim needed “immediate medical attention, but that Brieanna Harkey did not want anyone to call 911, stating that she had already administered charcoal and that [victim] would be fine.”

The victim was treated at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Her condition is unknown.
