Mercer County man sentenced to 40 years in prison following mother beating

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A Mercer County man will spend up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to being involved in an attack of his mother at her home.

Wayne Hartley, 44, of Bluefield, was sentenced Wednesday in connection to beating and robbing his mother, 81-year-old Patricia Hartley, in January.

Wayne Hartley entered a guilty plea in September on charges of first-degree robbery.

His then-girlfriend, 42-year-old Angela Graham, attacked Patricia Hartley with a baseball bat. sledge hammer and rolling pin as part of an effort to purchase drugs. Graham pleaded guilty in May to attempted murder and first-degree robbery charges, and was sentenced to more than 60 years in prison.

According to authorities, Wayne Hartley was aware of the attack and did not attempt to stop Graham.
