Class A contender South Harrison loses Barnette to torn ACL, meniscus

LOST CREEK, W.Va. — South Harrison senior running back and linebacker Cam Barnette is done for the season with an ACL and meniscus tear suffered in the first half of last week’s loss to now-No. 1 East Hardy.

“I believe we still have a good chance,” Barnette said. “I’ve just got to be a leader in another way other than on the field now.”

He’ll have surgery later this month.

Barnette, 6-foot-1, 215 pounds, entered that game with 631 yards and nine touchdowns on 97 carries. He has also been one of the lead blockers for Freddy Canary who entered the same game with over 1,380 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Defensively, Barnette led the Hawks with 70 tackles heading into Week 10.

South Harrison (8-1) this week is ranked No. 2 in Class A with with another big game coming up against Class AA No. 6 Liberty Harrison (8-1).
