HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Class AAA No. 1 Huntington secured its top seed in the playoffs and finished the regular season at 10-0 with a 27-14 win over Cabell Midland on Friday night.

“It’s a big accomplishment for our program,” said Huntington coach Billy Seals. “You look at our schedule and eight of our 10 opponents are in the playoffs – that speaks volumes. We played another good one tonight and I would hate to be whichever team is matched up against Cabell Midland in the playoffs, they’re a scary 5-5 football team.”

The Highlanders scored the game’s final 14 points, erasing a 14-13 second half deficit.

“We have a veteran football team with guys who have played a lot of snaps for us,” Seals said. “We probably have 10 or 11 guys who have been three year starters for us. All of the credit to them.”

Huntington running back Jadon Hayes added to his Kennedy Award and MetroNews Player of the Year caliber season with 134 rushing yards and three total touchdowns.

The Highlanders unofficially will be the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with an expected matchup against No. 16 South Charleston.

“We’re not done yet,” Seals said. “We have to be 1-0 next week and that’s our focus right now.”
