Routine traffic stop leads to significant heroin seizure in Monongalia County

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two men are facing charges after a routine traffic stop led to the recovery of 112 grams of heroin.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle with a burned out tail light on I-79 on Thursday, leading to the seizure of the heroin. It had an approximate street value of $15,000 to $17,000.

Two people in the vehicle were arrested. Emory Chiles, 45, of Bronx, NY, is charged with possession with intent to deliver and felon in possession of a firearm. Chiles, the passenger, had a loaded 9mm Ruger handgun, the heroin, and $440 in cash.

The driver, 26-year-old Trevor Townsend of Morgantown, was also charged with driving suspended/revoked for DUI 2nd, no insurance, and improper registration.

Chile’s bond is set at $35,000. Townsend’s bond was set at $2,100. He has since posted his bail.
