Skovron’s 6 TDs lead No. 1 East Hardy to perfect regular season

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Class A No. 1 East Hardy secured home field advantage throughout the postseason on Friday night, beating Class AA Petersburg 37-16.

The Cougars completed their second straight 10-0 regular season and third overall for the school.

“We start off every year with the goal of ending the regular season with home field advantage all the way to Wheeling Island,” said East Hardy coach Chad Williams. “With some of the games we’ve had this year, we’ve cut it pretty close. But I’m really proud of the boys for another 10-0 season – that’s always a great feeling.”

Quarterback Clay Skovron led East Hardy, completing 13 of 32 passes for 224 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. He also added 15 carries for 79 yards and two more scores.

Brett Tharp collected three of those touchdown catches, while Aden Funkhouser finished with four catches for 114 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Official playoff pairings and seedings will be released on Saturday, with dates and times set on Sunday from Parkersburg.
