Police capture escaped prisoner in Randolph County

RANDOLPH COUNTY, W.Va. — A man who escaped from custody of law enforcement in Randolph County this weekend is now in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.

Sampson Odell IV was being transported from Preston County to the Tygart Valley Regional Jail when he fled the vehicle just minutes before noon near the intersection of Rt. 92 and Rt. 33 in Randolph County, which is close to the Barbour County line.

He was wanted on charges from Maryland and was listed as armed and dangerous before his arrest.

West Virginia State Police received a tip on Sunday that Odell was in a residence on Old Weaver Road in Randolph County. Troopers went to the house to arrest Odell, joined by officers from the Elkins Police Department.

Odell surrendered to police custody at the home without incident, and is now in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
