INWOOD, W.Va. — The Musselman High School Lady Applemen volleyball team won their second straight AAA state championship last weekend over Spring Valley.

A school-wide assembly was held Friday in honor of the team that has now won six championships over the last 10 seasons.

Head coach Shawn Martz said the team’s will was key in their run to the title.

“I think they really grew with their mental toughness throughout the season and they were really able to battle back,” Martz said.

Senior team captain outside hitter Hallie Shelton said back-to-back titles were a picture perfect way to end her high school career.

“It was so different than last year,” Shelton said. “It was so amazing to end this year just like this. It was the best thing we could ask for.”

The team will graduate one other senior player in Kira Williams and a team manager, Brooke Henns.

Martz said he realizes that his team will have many contributors coming back in 2018.
