Two facing drug charges in Kanawha County after overdose death

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. — Two people arrested on drug charges in Kanawha County could face more serious charges after an overdose death.

Valerie Ramey

As of Saturday morning, Valerie Kay Ramey, 40, of Hernshaw, and FaShawn Lorenzo Cannon, 27, of Detroit, Mich., were accused of possession with intent to deliver narcotics and were being held in the South Central Regional Jail.

Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department said their arrests followed the death of a man from a suspected heroin overdose.

That man’s body was found in a vehicle on Friday night in the parking lot of the Marmet Kroger.

An official cause of death had not been determined as of Saturday.

FaShawn Cannon

Witnesses told deputies the victim had bought the heroin from a man named “Chops” and a woman named “Valerie” who were allegedly selling heroin in the Hernshaw area.

The two were arrested at a Hernshaw home.

Also found at that home was a gun, a large amount of suspected heroin packaged for sale and prescription medication believed to by oxycodone, according to deputies.
