Gallery: Fairmont Sr. beats Wayne for rematch with Mingo Central

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Class AA No. 4 Fairmont Senior rolled to a 43-8 win over No. 5 Wayne in the playoff quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.

Quarterback Connor Neal threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns, while Bryson Gilbert added a pair of rushing scores as well in the win for the Polar Bears (11-1). Caleb Walker also scored two touchdowns for Fairmont Senior, including a 41-yard run for a score.

Wayne was held to just 115 yards of total offense in the loss, finishing its season at 10-2.

Fairmont Senior moves on to face No.1 Mingo Central in the semifinals in a rematch of last year’s state championship game, won by the Miners 32-7.
