DNR investigating death of Wetzel County hunter

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One person is dead following what is believed to be a hunting accident in Wetzel County, the Division of Natural Resources confirmed Monday.

A 20-year-old man from New Martinsville died following a “single subject incident” while hunting deer with a rifle. That incident occurred around noon Monday. The man’s cause of death is currently unclear.

In an unrelated incident, a 12-year-old boy in Braxton County near Gassaway is receiving medical treatment after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left toes Monday. He was not hunting at the time, but was riding on a UTV with his brother while holding his brother’s rifle.

Police officers with the Division of Natural Resources are investigating.
